Meliá Serengeti Lodge

Home » Meliá Serengeti Lodge

Overview

Located within the famous Serengeti National Park, situated on the naturally terraced southern slope of Nyamuma hills with spectaculars views down into the Mbalageti River Valley. This location offers stunning sunset views over the mountains beyond with an abundant population of resident game as well as the annual migration often passing right through the area. The lodge design follows the gentle meander of the terrace edge, engaging in an intimate relationship with the natural landscape of existing trees and rocky outcrops. The intensity of this relationship with the sites ensures that guests experience a greater interface between building and bush.

What you didn’t know about Melia Serengeti

  • Melia Serengeti uses Solar panels that produce up to 45% of energy and reduce in-room usage electric equipment.
  • Melia Serengeti produces our own drinking water, whether still or sparkling, through a bottling plant processing the water gathered at the property’s borehole, avoiding transportation of products from outside of the park and additional plastic bottles.
  • Reduce as much as possible the paper usage at the hotel, taking a more digital approach to enhance the guests’ experiences.
  • Several Maasai Tribe members are part of lodge staff, they proudly take part in activities related to their culture to promote and protect the Maasai heritage.
  • The guestrooms items and facilities are produced by Maasai artisans and local businesses, mostly owned by women. You can find all this handicrafts at The Shop. This is the best way to support the local Masai Community.
  • Melia Serengeti Lodge collaborates with the Dada Project from Zanzibar, supporting local women and empowering them as income-makers.
  • Melia Serengeti Lodge collaborates with the Moshi-based NGO Born to Learn, which operate a school and a clinic available for the children of the area and their families.
  • The mothers of the children of NGO Born to Learn became suppliers for our hotel, therefore guaranteeing a sustainable flow of income for their families, by producing hand soaps and other items.
  • The used soaps of the hotel are donated to the NGO Comeco, which sterilizes them and recycles them, and then donates them to remote schools and families with limited resources.
  • We collaborate with the NGO Sanaa, located onsite at Gran Melia Arusha, which recycles glass and gives them a second life in the shape of glassware of different kinds, which is handmade by their disabled staff.
  • Guests at Melia Serengeti Lodge do not use pens; instead, the lodge provides pencils made out of recycled newspapers that are produced in Tanzania.
  • Melia Serengeti Lodge has their own incinerator to process organic waste which is then used to produce compost that they donate to local farmers.
